Cost guide ยท 2026
Honest ranges for the projects Temecula Valley homeowners ask about most, and what moves each number up or down. Written to help you plan, not to sell you anything.
Every figure on this page is a typical range for a home in Murrieta or the surrounding valley in 2026, based on the projects we estimate and complete. They are planning numbers. Your house, your material choices and what turns up once a floor or a wall is open will move the real figure, which is why the estimate is done in person and in writing.
Two things keep costs in this valley a little lower than coastal San Diego or Orange County: the housing stock is consistent, so there are fewer surprises, and the slab construction avoids a lot of the subfloor work that older raised-foundation homes need.
| Project | Typical range | What drives the number |
|---|---|---|
| Kitchen refresh (paint cabinets, quartz counters, backsplash, lighting) | $12,000 to $25,000 | Counter material and square footage, backsplash tile, whether the light box is replaced with recessed cans. |
| Kitchen replacement (new cabinets, same layout) | $25,000 to $50,000 | Cabinet line and construction, counter material, appliance package, sink and faucet. |
| Kitchen remodel with layout change | $50,000 and up | Moving plumbing or gas, removing a wall, island electrical, permits. |
| Hall bathroom refresh (vanity, floor, fixtures, paint) | $6,000 to $12,000 | Vanity and top, tile choice, whether the tub surround is replaced. |
| Master bath tub-to-shower conversion, tiled | $12,000 to $25,000 | Shower size, tile, glass enclosure, niche and bench, fixture quality. |
| Luxury vinyl plank, installed | $5 to $9 per sq ft | Product thickness and wear layer, slab prep, tear-out, baseboards. |
| Porcelain tile floor, installed | $10 to $18 per sq ft | Tile size and price, slab levelling, pattern, grout type. |
| Interior painting, walls and ceilings | $2.50 to $4.50 per sq ft of floor area | Ceiling height, amount of patching, trim and doors, number of colours. |
| Cabinet painting, sprayed | $3,500 to $7,000 | Number of doors and drawers, condition of existing finish, colour change. |
| Exterior repaint, two-storey stucco | $7,000 to $14,000 | Square footage, stucco repair, fascia condition, HOA colour count. |
| Drywall patch with texture match | $250 to $600 | Size and number of patches, ceiling versus wall, paint corner to corner. |
| Popcorn ceiling removal, per room | $600 to $1,500 | Room size, condition, new texture choice, asbestos test if pre-1982. |
| Kitchen backsplash, installed | $1,200 to $3,000 | Tile price and format, outlets, edge trim, area behind the range. |
| Baseboards, per linear foot installed and painted | $5 to $9 | Height and profile, MDF versus wood, number of corners, removal of old. |
| Interior door replacement, per door | $300 to $700 | Solid versus hollow core, style, new hardware, painting. |
| Ceiling fan installation, existing box | $150 to $300 | Ceiling height, box rating, remote or wall control. |
| Handyman visit, list of small jobs | $350 to $900 | Number of items, materials, time on site. |
The biggest lever in a kitchen budget is whether the cabinets stay. Painting solid existing boxes and replacing counters, backsplash and lighting gets a 1990s Murrieta kitchen most of the way to new for a fraction of a replacement. Once new cabinets are in the plan, the cabinet line itself becomes the swing factor: a stock line and a semi-custom line can differ by more than the rest of the project combined.
Counters are the second lever. Quartz is the valley default and pricing varies mostly by brand and pattern. Layout changes are the third, and the one where costs move fastest, because moving a sink or a range brings plumbing, electrical, and usually a permit into the job.
A bathroom's cost is mostly about the shower. A tiled walk-in shower with a glass enclosure is the single most expensive element in the room and the one that makes the biggest difference. Everything else, vanity, floor, fixtures, paint, is comparatively modest. If the budget is tight, a refresh that keeps the existing tub and surround and replaces the rest is a real option, and the hall bath is often the right place for it.
Material is roughly half of a flooring number and labour and prep the other half. On vinyl plank, the difference between a thin product and a good one is a couple of dollars a foot and several years of life. Prep varies with the slab: a flat one needs little; one that has settled or was poured roughly needs grinding and levelling, which is money well spent because a plank floor telegraphs every hump beneath it.
Interior paint is priced by the work, not the gallon: ceiling height, the amount of patching, and whether doors and trim are included are what move it. Cabinet painting is its own trade with its own price because of the prep and spray finish involved. Exterior work is priced by square footage and, in this climate, by how much stucco and fascia repair is needed first.
Drywall repairs, fans, doors, trim and the handyman list are priced by time and materials with a visit minimum. The best way to spend that minimum is to bundle: five items in one visit costs much less than five visits.
If a Murrieta home is going to get one project this year, the most house per dollar is usually, in order: interior paint throughout, new flooring through the main level, painting the existing kitchen cabinets with new counters, and the master bath tub-to-shower conversion. Those four make a 1990s tract home read as renovated to a buyer and to the people living in it. A full kitchen replacement is the right project when the cabinets are genuinely done or the layout genuinely does not work.

Because cabinets can stay or go, and because cabinet, counter and appliance choices each span a wide price band on their own. The estimate narrows it to your actual choices.
