Drywall Repair and Texture in Murrieta

A patch is easy. A patch you cannot find afterwards is the job. Every house in this valley has a texture, and matching it is what separates a repair from a reminder.

Why Texture Matching Matters Here

Almost every home built in Murrieta since the 1980s has a sprayed texture on the walls and ceilings: orange peel on most, knockdown on many from the 2000s, and popcorn on the ceilings of the oldest. A smooth patch on a textured wall is visible from the doorway no matter how well it is painted. Matching the texture, in the same pattern and heaviness, is the actual skill.

We match by spraying test patches on a board, comparing them to the wall in the room's own light, and only then texturing the repair. The result blends into the surrounding wall so that once it is painted, the repair is gone.

The Repairs We See Most

Doorknob holes and impact damage. Hollow-core doors and no door stops make these the most common call. Patched with a proper backing, not a stick-on mesh.

Settling cracks. Diagonal cracks off the corners of doors and windows are normal in a slab house here. We cut them out, tape them, and float them so they do not come straight back.

Water damage. A slow leak under a bathroom or a roof that let in one winter storm leaves a stained, soft patch. The damaged board is cut out, the cavity checked and dried, and new board goes in before texture and paint.

Holes from removed fixtures, mirrors and shelving. When a glued builder mirror comes off it usually takes the paper with it. This is routine to repair properly.

Popcorn Ceiling Removal

Acoustic popcorn ceilings are the one finish everybody wants gone. Removal is a wet-scrape job with the room fully masked, followed by skim coating, a new texture (usually a light knockdown or smooth) and paint. For homes built before the early 1980s we recommend having the material tested for asbestos before any scraping, and we will tell you where to send a sample.

Finishing the Job

A drywall repair is not finished until it is painted. We prime the repair and paint the patch or, where the existing paint has faded, the full wall corner to corner so there is no visible difference in sheen.

Questions

Drywall Repair & Texture Questions, Answered

Can you match my existing wall texture?

Yes. Orange peel, knockdown, skip trowel and smooth are all matched by spraying test patches and comparing them to the wall in the room's own light before the repair is textured.

How long does a drywall repair take?

Small patches are a two-visit job because joint compound and texture each need to dry: about an hour the first day and an hour or two the next. Larger water damage or a popcorn ceiling is scheduled as a multi-day project.

Do you paint the repair as well?

Always. A textured patch left unpainted is only half done. We prime and paint the repair, and where the surrounding paint has faded we will recommend painting the wall corner to corner.

Is popcorn ceiling removal messy?

It is a wet, messy process, which is why the room is fully masked with plastic and the floor covered before scraping starts. The mess stays inside the plastic and leaves with us.
