Nearly every house in Murrieta sits on a concrete slab, and that shapes every flooring decision. Solid hardwood is out unless it is glued down with the right adhesive. Anything floating needs a moisture barrier. And a slab that was poured in 1999 is rarely as flat as a modern plank floor wants, so grinding high spots and filling low ones with a levelling compound is a normal part of the job, not an add-on.
Then there is the heat. Summers here run well over 100 degrees for weeks, and a floor that was installed tight in January will buckle in July if it was not given room to move. We leave the expansion gap the manufacturer specifies and let the material sit in the house before installation.
Waterproof vinyl plank has become the floor of choice in this valley for a reason. It handles a kitchen spill, a dog, and a flooded laundry room without swelling. It goes over a slab without a moisture worry. And the better products are thick enough, with a real wear layer, that they look and feel like a wood floor. We will tell you which lines hold up and which ones are thin enough to telegraph every bump in the slab.
Laminate is still a solid choice for bedrooms and living areas at a lower price point, as long as it stays away from water. Engineered wood gives you a real wood surface and can be glued or floated on a slab; it costs more and rewards a home where the floor is the finish that matters most.
Porcelain tile is the right answer for bathrooms, laundry rooms and entries, and for whole-house floors in homes that want a cool surface through the summer. Large-format tile in particular needs a flat slab and a proper thinset with full coverage. We set it with a levelling system so lippage between tiles does not show in the low afternoon light that comes through every west-facing window in Murrieta.
Furniture moved, old carpet and pad or old flooring pulled up and hauled away, tack strip removed, the slab cleaned and prepped, the new floor installed, transitions fitted at doorways, and baseboards either reinstalled or replaced with new ones. The house is cleaned before we leave.
